Gludys next New Tender

I only found out about them this morning and have emailed them to find out.

They are made in Holland and could be mounted on my new boat OK - need to upgrade the crane a bit though. I am considering getting one - you only live once /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What concerns me is the rescue if things go wrong. The RNLI does not have too many sub surface lifeboats - otherwise the concept is very tempting - you get a 4 day course with it.

The double claims 4 knots on top or under water.
Mind you, I would have to be careful where to use it in the Bristol Channel.

I could sneek into all sorts of harbours without anyone knowing and just pop up when nobody is looking - the fun could be endless.

if you can afford one i couldn't see a reason for not getting one especially as you're planning on an extended cruise. countless fun

I am considering it.
The only drwback seems to be safety.
It has a ballast freeing pop up system etc.
I may nip over to Holland and have a look at one.

I was getting an ROV anyway for camera work and that was going to cost £25k just for that. The sub may mean there is no need for that.

definatly worth a trip. it may be possible for a proper demo. i like the idea of a pop up ballast system i presume once the ballast is jettisoned it will have positive buoyancy.

There are 6 ways of popping to the surface even if electronics fail or air fails etc.

So providing you do not get stuck somehwere it seems OK.
Wea are planning to take a look and will report back /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ]It does look like a nice toy, but along the lines of "you only live once" the experience which you can't miss is definitely another one - scuba diving, that is.
I guess that if the minisub got your attention, you probably never tried the real thing.
Trust me, the difference between watching an aquarium and being part of it is immense.
Only diving can give you that magic weightless sensation, allowing to explore small caves or wrecks, or to swim gently together with a sea turtle, and so on.
For that kind of money, you could travel to the best diving spots of the planet, enjoying dream holidays and memorable experiences.
If you think that popping up in harbours when nobody is looking would be fun, well, think again.
It's much safer than you might think, also.
...and don't we only live once, anyway? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Even at 4 knots, you may well be using up a large proportion of your battery power just trying to hold your position.

Looks like a nice toy though. Will you have space for that AND a proper tender?

I could make enough space yes. SWMBO wants to go subsurface without getting wet but the sub is probably not the way - I would always fear getting stuck without rescue ........ I am cooling off the idea today /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In even a 2.5 knot current things would be diifcult - so you are right even at 4 knots most of the power would be used staying still or it would take you about 45 mins to travel a mile wityh the remaining power.
