Global warming in the Sunday Times mag

Get a lfe.

I am sorry. Due to the new strategy to combat global warming caused by too many people spouting hot air you are no longer permitted to get a life of your own choice. Instead the Government have announced a new PFI for lives, and you will be issued with one of those that fits the demographic into which it has been decided to place you.

Your McLife will be delivered some time next week. If you choose not to accept this then please ensure that your affairs are in order and an official from HMRC will be around to collect.

Just in case the link between CO2 levels and increasing temperature - and the consequences - isn't clear for all the obstinate bloody-minded cynics out there:

Wierd Science again....
The picture tells us that Temperature goes up and down in a regular cycle, it also tells that CO2 PPM has a similar cycle. Correlation does not equal causation.
Science is cynical, Faith just believes.

Per a new report this was the warmest winter since records began. Now those records began in 1880. Anyone over 50 may have spoken to someone born then, so not quite living memory. Not that long ago really. Artificial base points have long been a way to display information to a desired end.

We know from historical records that weather has been both substantially colder and substantially warmer. All those frozen mammoths in Siberia, viticulture in England during the Roman period, the Little Ice Age of the C17th and C18th. (No US then but I digress!)

A spokesperson for the green types on the radio this morning gave me to understand that it was now too late anyway. Sensationalist sound bite?

I love the extrapolation using the short vertical part of the curve to predict 2100. If I did the same extrapolation of one day on the FTSE graph I ought to go out and buy some shares fast! If the same extrapolation had been done on previous peaks pre industrialisation we would have fried before we were born.

Can you imagine how cold it should have got if you used the same extrapolation for the cooling period at about 250,000 years ago and 100,000 years ago as they have for the projected rise by 2100 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And as already said, It's a shame the temperature on the graph goes up 800 years before the co2 levels rise so can someone explain which is the cause and which is the effect /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's an idea: Maybe solar activity increases so we get warmer causing the seas to evaporate a little bit more thus putting more co2 into the atmosphere!!

Given that almost all green house gases are water vapour and co2 makes up just a tiny percentage of greenhouse gases and just a tiny percentage of the already tiny percentage of co2 has anything to do with man, how gullible are some people?

And just to put man made greenhouse gases into perspective, I think it works out that co2 accounts for less than 1% of greenhouse gases. Out of that 1%, 0.031% of co2 in the atmosphere is man made. I guess that tipped the ballance? NOT!!!

You clearly are very gullible!

You are just quoting discredited figures with no understanding of what they even mean.

So tell me what figures are incorrect and why rather than just say poo pooing them.

Ok,

The above was done from memory (bad)

These figures are as is.

Greenhouse gases:

Water vapour = 95% of total greenhouse gases of which 0.001 is man made.
Co2 = 3.618% of total greenhouse gases of which 0.117% is man made.

So just over a tenth of of 1% of just over three and a half percent has anything to do with us. Not much is it?

It does ? where ?

It looks to me that temp lags CO2 which is more-or-less as expected. In fact, given the long time scales I am surprised thast they don't appear simultaneously on that scale of graph.
