I passed about 20 Clyde Ferries in the last week at various points. On several occasions they clearly gave way to me when it was obvious that it would help my tack. I think they do a great job. The Arran ferry was the best!
Whilst out with a local guy, travelling back from Bembridge to Langstone in a 26' cat, a friend of mine was crew, the owner decided he was the stand on vessel and came close to being run down by a container vessel, leaving Southampton via the Nab Channel. A very frightening experience, but there are a few idiots out there.
I suggest Ian buy himself a Pirie Reece map of the world, a Hadley Quadrant and a load stone! And suggest he leaves Chi Harbour, never to return.

Would you think the Clyde would be a good place for Ian to go and prcatice as there would be less private traffic? He could then concentrate on missing the ferries
And really, suggestions to sail round the back of the IoW to go from Chichester to Cowes?! Seriously???
.
EXCUSE ME ! That was my suggestion - what's wrong with it?
i think if i do this from the marina then there should be time for it to be sorted out.
Probably not a good idea. Would give 'em more time to string a boom across Chi harbour entrance and post armed units on each shore to prevent you leaving. Best to let them know after you have left the harbour and at sea as you will have more room to evade detection.![]()
OH ... and play "I will survive!" full chat on the boat hi fi with CH16 kept open, so that the ferry skipper will hear it!
