With heavy heart, I am giving up sailing and my Javelin30 is on the market. My life and health since last year makes it "non-conducive" to sailing so a beautiful, exciting, well found and useful boat hopefully will make someone very happy.
YBW has been a huge source of help, fun and camaraderie since 2010 - thank you all. If anyone reading this is interested in her, or knows of someone who might be, then contact me, please. I just don't want her to rot on the hard or a mooring.
So sad.

I'm sad for you that this moment has come.

Good luck with finding a new owner. The Javelin 30 is such a pretty boat.

....and thank too! Your contributions are always warm and friendly -- some might say like a good malt :) -- a commodity this forum needs every last drop of these days.

So good luck with the sale and absolutely do stick around (y)

Very sad to learn of your decision. Best to concentrate on looking back with fond memories of some great sailing times!
All the best

Having posted what a pretty boat I find the Javelin 30 to be, I realized I had no idea I who had designed it.

As is the way of the web, I've just been on a magical mystery tour, learning about Fred Parker and his various designs. I now know he didn't care for GRP at all, and was responsible for many of those wooden post war AH Moody yachts. Interesting stuff, and as good a way as any to pass the time during the lockdown.....

Well, your thoughts and best wishes will certainly help while I'm looking out from the shore wondering what might have been!
At the tender age of 71, I'm too young to throw in the towel, but events and body have made me realise there was going to be more hassle than fun. The memories are so precious and rewarding - by golly I've seen life in her and learned a VERY great deal about myself.
I have a price in mind, but if a buyer doesn't come along within a year, I'll be seeing the costs of keeping and delivering her almost gobbling-up any sale value.
I expect I'm not alone in realising/experiencing this.

Someone will get a great boat, for not much money!(y)

I can vouch that she is a smart looking boat. Made our Tupperware boat look scruffy when next to her.

As long as the gin, pizza and showers are still there you'll be part of the sailing community (if we ever get launched this year

Took the same step last year for similar reasons after 70years boating
It was surprising that the actual sailing was not the biggest miss but the planning and manshed
However at this time is has been proved correct when hearing all the stories about not being able to get to the boat

It is a decision I will have to make in the next year or three, so I understand what a break it must be.

We had a Fred Parker-designed Mystere for many years. The Parker boats included some motor boats. The sailing boats tended to look like wooden ones made of plastic (except of course for the wooden ones made of wood). There was one odd design that had a step in the deck, but they could all be identified by Parker's characteristic squiggle at the bow end of the cove line. There is probably a name for this.

Very sorry that life and health has imposed that decision upon you. She is a lovely looking boat and it will be a big wrench to part with her, but I'm sure you will find a buyer. The Javelin has beautiful lines.

Good luck with whatever life brings to you.

No you can’t do that, I was looking forward to meeting you on the Dart on your next trip!
I’m sorry to hear you’re having to give up sailing, no doubt a difficult decision to make. Hope it all works out for you and enjoy whatever else you decide to do. And most of all, stay safe.

Sorry to hear your news Robert.

I’m not familiar with the javelin 30 so googled. The second image that came up was actually Khamsin. Coincidence or google has been reading this thread.
Lovely looking boat- good luck.

Robert, are you moving house too?
No intentions yet, especially with the house markets in such uncertainty. However, it has always been my long term plan to downsize and probably move nearer my offspring in NE England.
I hope I haven't over dramatised the issue; I realised I shall never do any long distance sailing now, and just sailing around the local area has limited long-term appeal.
Lyme disease last summer, then hospital over New Year has knocked me sideways. It seems like one thing after another.
I'm not despondent, or giving up, but my outlook is changing and I'd rather somebody else enjoyed Khamsin as much as I have done.
I am truly grateful for all the interest, comments and kind words on this thread.?
