Had Musto MPX for about 8 years - good while it lasted, but fell out with Musto over 'warranty issues'.
Gill offers left me unimpressed - went for Guy Cotten, and haven't it regretted one single moment.

Prefer Musto. Never had warranty problems even on items well out of warranty. They might of changed in the last few years though.

Agree - try on all the makes and go for the most comfortable. Went to the boat show, tried on all the jackets at each makers stand then went to the chandlery stands and did a deal for two suits - we both chose Gill.

Have a Gill Jacket and the equivalent Musto Jacket (MPX not HPX admittedly) The Musto is better (a little) all round.

If you ever visit Concarneau, Guy Cotten have a factory shop a few km away ( at Trégunc). I recently acquired an offshore suit for €100. A few years ago I got a set of oilies for visitors for €10.

On our boat, and indeed, on my own person, is a literally motley collection of Gill, Musto, XM, Helly Hansen, and Dubarry gear. It's all good - never had an unsatisfactory item of gear from any of them - and there's hardly anything as satisfying as standing out in inclement weather in Goretex clothing. XM a striking value for the money - 80% of the quality for 50% of the price.

gill could not be faulted when a mate had problems with his they replaced them no bother what so ever but like you say its a personel prefrence. incedently why do they all think us sailors with a beer barrel instead of a 6 pack have legs 18in longer than they are.

My galley wench's Musto HPX are seriously delaminating at 4 and a bit years old. Musto seem to be suggesting they may perhaps play ball, but have a five to six week turnaround on service claims, which isn't possible to live with at this time of year.
The problem is, even if if they do offer to renew them, they're irreplaceable in ladies sizes now and would also be of lower quality since the range was changed from the proper old heavyweight HPX to the moden poncey made in the Far East ones which don't even have proper pockets.
Looks like it may be the end of the road for us and Musto.

We tried both and found that the Gill was more comfortable to wear. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and I am sure the same will be true of the Musto.
Try them both (London boat show perhaps) and buy the one you find most comfortable.
