Gill vs Musto

Very happy with my HLs. Replaced for free (well, postage) at 9 years old when they were delam-ing. And I love the Opti-vision hood (with the little windows at each side. Really improve preipheral vision, and you feel much less "closed in").

(I see that the Groupama boat in the Volvo Ocean Race are using Slam oilies, but their hoods are also opti-vision.)

Here is an excellent video about Gill clothing I recommend that you watch it, it is very impressive.

Very good video - I am in the process of pricing up new Gill and Musto waterproofs to make a decision on which to buy so the topic is timely. Not sure how Musto do their quality control processes but its nice to see Nick Gill putting the quality of his product at the top of the agenda.

I have had lots of 'high-quality' products fail me far too early (white goods, cars and clothing) so I am realistic enough to know that not everything works 100% reliably all the time.

As long as one has a lifetime replacement guarantee on a good-quality product then the purchase decision comes down to form, function and price.

I can't comment on the others, but I bought a used set of Musto MPX oilies five years ago (so probably ten years old now). The salopettes look tired, with the odd small tear or chafing on the outer layer, but wearing them in heavy rain all day last Tuesday, my trousers underneath remained as dry as an old tart's whatsit.

Bought a set of XM offshore oilies three years ago for visiting crew use. Aside from a few lashings of puke, they still look and work as good as new.

For winter or heavy weather, Musto for me every time - my suit's around 10 years old now, no leaks, gets an annual reproofing wash and is good to go.

For warmer times, I have an Henri Lloyd midweight, again a few years old, which is awesome.

It's a shame the manufacturers of our CG foul weather kit don't do a sailing range though, they're awesome in even the worst conditions.
