A while ago there were questions about current status of Gibraltar and as none of us knew the answer, I emailed Gib government Brexit dept. Have at last received their reply this morning and at this time it's still a bolt hole outside Schengen -

Dear Mr **********
Thank you for your email.
Gibraltar is not currently part of the Schengen area or Customs Union. Negotiations are currently ongoing and we are therefore unable to advise on future arrangements, until further details are announced by HM Government of Gibraltar.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.
Kind regards
Brexit Office

Thinking on to when we were there. Go from La Linea to Gib for diesel fuel. They advertise no check in for just fueling. The fuel dock is open to the public. Think about the options open for someone creatively thinking it through! ?

You can't get into gib from the diesel docks. The doors are locked to prevent it, staff only and enforced. Was there a few months ago. (y)

Went for fuel once & needed to change the primary filters.

Rang shepherd's, 'yes got 13 of those' can you deliver? 'No there's only me here'

Had to bribe the lad out of the fuel Dock to get them.

Filters arrived, wrong ones. Had to bribe him again to go in siesta & get the right ones.

You are not allowed through the shop on pain of arrest, both you & the person that let you out.

Does this mean,as things stand,we can use a day in a
Gibraltar Marina to reset the 18 month VAT on a UK boat clock ?

That's not related to Schengen, that depends on if Gibraltar is in the EU Customs/VAT Area (it's not at present).

I suspect one issue might be whether the local EU officials accept this as valid - particularly if doing a day trip out of Spain for this purpose, as not sure Spain entirely accepts Gibraltar’s status.
Winning an argument with stubborn officialdom can be tricky, whether in the UK, EU or elsewhere

Surely not a lot of difference going from Samos to Turkey or Corfu to Albania?
