Gianneschi Idromini domestic fresh water pump

Good news, maybe there is a simple solution to mine.

I spoke to the dealer today and sent photos, waiting for a reply.

Just an update, the dealer spoke to the factory and have decided my electric motor brushes need replacing, they are a wear item.

Waiting for a price and availability but the pump still works, so not super urgent.

I thought they should last a bit longer but we do use it a lot and I am happy with that.

My goodness
I just thought I would check what I ordered for my spares (early in 2015)
I asked the Gianneschi rep what I should buy/keep as spares.
The boat was fitted with a single pump and it is a bit of a "deal breaker" if it fails on a holiday.
I remember him saying that I wouldn't need a spare pump but I bought one anyway.
However, he did recommend keeping a pressure switch as a spare AND A SET OF BRUSHES.
On my invoice, my brushes are described as 7x14 (4 per pump)

I am with you. When you have a spare part, it almost never goes wrong. As soon as you get rid of it, you need it and are stuck. So by buying the spare part, you save the work of installing it ?.

I have just ordered two sets of brushes, one for now and one for spare.

Ours is variable speed so I think the pressure switch is part of the electronic wizardry. I have asked the dealer to suggest any spares I should keep on board. I will post back once I know.

Bad news, I replaced the brushes ($400) and our pump was still noisy.

I emailed and rang our distributor who said he will get back to me.

About 5 days later the pump seized and there was a lot of smoke.

I rang them and they asked to get a local pump repair place to have a look.

Well the pump repairers said it is only good for scrap.

Their guess is that the bearing on the end seized and as it couldn't start rotating, melted the windings.

There doesn't seem to be a thermal over protect on the motor and the recommended fuse we installed did trip, but too late.

Quite scary on a boat as the last thing we want is a fire in the engine room.

Interestingly the bearing has no part number or manufacturers name, or any markings at all. It looks and feels very cheaply made.

Our guess is that it is a Chinese bearing.

The rest of the pump looked well made, except for the lack of thermal overload.

According to my supplier here in Australia, Gineico Queensland, it is rare for Gianneschi to honour a warranty on a pump.

I have spent $400 for brushes on top of the $2000 Australian dollars for buying the pump 18 months ago. My two year warranty appears to be useless.

I asked if they thought I somehow contributed to the demise of the pump and they said that wasn't the issue. They had no response on what the issue was.

I am extremely unhappy as at this stage it appears that:

1/ They are not honouring a warranty on what is marketed as a premium pump at a premium price.

2/ They appear to be saving a few dollars by buying cheap bearings on what appeared to be an otherwise well made pump.
