GGR 22

Comparing the DTG figures posted in the Live Tracker dropdowns, it would appear to the unwary and gullible that Simon C. has clocked up some 1430nm in the past 24 hours. That would suggest an average speed of about 60knots....which is rather more than all nuclear submarines I'm aware of.

That's a whole order of magnitude wrong.

Perhaps someone in the GGR camp has been sampling the Christmas sherry just a little too enthusiastically.

I note that Abhilash has been reeling in Kirsten over the past week, and is now just about 80nm behind.

It's also evident that whoever does the sums at GGR Towers is having yet another attack of the 'Dianes'. The latest drop-down info box nonsense suggests Simon has been 'back-peddling' for 34nm since yesterday.....

Under GGR rules, the website is coal powered and uses a slide rule rather than a computer, with information presented on slate tiles

Dont knock slide rules. Using a slide rule you had to know how big your answer was going to be, and have a feeling for the numbers. Today many engineers rely blindly on their spreadsheets/calculators, and often fail to pick up rediculous error results.

Because we all remember the memorable footage from 2018 that has still not been released.

...And the phantom checks on entrant's astro-navigation to prove they were actually 'doing it the trad way' and not getting positions from friends on a coded 'radio sched'....

Tonight it is reported that Abhilash has pulled ahead of Kirsten by 50-odd miles. He's been reeling her progressively in for days, now, maintaining better days' runs. It raises the question that she has perhaps suffered some damage to sails, or is under attack by squadrons of goose barnacles, or summat. I can't imagine her simply 'sandbagging'....

Kirsten is now drifting about, indicating 0.3kts with a 'south' heading. Probably a combination of very little breeze and a whole lot of barnacles....
