See from this mornings brief Kirsten was warned to go North away from the no go area, she was in cloud and a brisk wind coming from the Sth West. How come in a similar situation (he got within 19 miles) a few days ago Simon wasn't warned ? He too had clouds but a NW wind.

It looks to me that Simon has his DR and astro-fixing well sorted, as his course change to the SE was appropriately timed, with a safe margin.
It seems to me that Kirsten was having some 'temporarily unsure of position' issues, in that she seemed to have dived SE quite a lot earlier than she should have done. Perhaps she had some form of intuition? Or managed to get a fix?

How is it a competitor can be assisted by the race organiser? Perhaps they should give tactical advice to other competitors to balance things out?

Sorry! This vieillard forgets that the Millenials and their like see the world through iPhones and apps - blinkered to much that's going on.

Here's a pic showing the 'Windyty' overlay. That big windhole has had Abilash in its grip for much of Sunday ( here ) into Monday, which explains his going nowhere slowly.

Kisten is making over 6 knots to Simon's 5 in bigger breeze. She's steadily nibbling away at his lead.....

Earlier in the evening Simon had been doing 7 Knots and Kirsten 6 knots so was building his impressive lead at that time

Tonight/this morning, it looks like Simon had clocked up 41nm/24hrs while Kirsten has put in another 170nm day. That's now under 550nm of a lead.
Simon is in a windhole, which looks persistent for the next 2-3 days, then light head winds. Kirsten should have better and sailable breeze, according to Windy, and she should be able to cut that lead in half again. And then some...

Simon's going to need to get crafty!

Tonight, Simon has a bit over 400nm to go to the Hobart Gate. Kirsten has a bit over twice that, and Abhilash has about 3 times that. He has the bit between his teeth, is chalking up consistently good days' runs, and has clearly 'laid his dragons'....

A large windhole is brewing up to Kirsten's NE, which might catch up with her as she closes SW of Tasmania.

Another retirement. Elliot Smith has had so many rigging problems. Now can't hoist a headsail and is on the looooong way to Freemantle.

Simon has about 360nm to get into the Derwent River, off Hobart..... while Kirsten has about 550nm. Abhilash is still about 280-odd miles behind Kirsten, but biting chunks into her lead as her wind steadily eases.

The fluctuating lightwinds region south and southwest of Tasmania should give them several days of frustrating jilling about. I wonder if they'll stay for Christmas....?

At 1100 this Friday morning, Simon was creeping along within 30nm of the Gate near Hobart. Kirsten was 150nm behind and moving well. Abhilash is charging up just 200nm behind Kirsten....

Just goes to show . On paper I would have put the three boats in reverse order , but that is such a small part of the overall package..
