Getting there, the first 30 months

Looking forward to trying some sailing instead of restoring. Still alot to do but I think she looks pretty good for her age (71). Launching in a couple of weeks, then I will try and sort out the sails /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Lovely. Please tell more. Is she German? How extensive has her restoration been. I am 13 months into mine and have yet to get out of the destructive phase. Longing to put in new wood let alone have a sail.

Spot on, Robert Clark 1938 cutter (but then maybe you cheated /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif), built in Scotland James Miller yard. I bought her late 2006, fell in love with her lines, no obvious signs of the problems that lay ahead. She was sheathed in Cascova, and had many coats of gloss on the interior. Both of which were helping to hold her together. Found some rot after removing water tank, that led to partial removal of sheathing. She has copper nails and bronze screws alternating, the nails were fine the screws not so. Decided to strip the Cascova and replaced/doubled all the screws below water line. Found more rot on the way. Brought her to Levington from Ipswich under motor (4108) my big cruise for last year. SYH have done some work on her, but I then got diagnosed with Lymphoma just before Christmas (prognosis v. good) and decided to get my priorities right. She will be a bit rough around the edges for a while but she will be sailing this year and the finished job will be in 10 years or so. It would be nice if I lived a bit closer ( Leicester) I might even join the East coast forum /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

'tis obviously re-rigged as a schooner! The mainmast is the one growing out of the cockpit and the smaller one is the foremast.

Don't know what you are on about, the beautiful wooden mast that you can clearly see was bought from an emperor, who I must say had a particularly fine new suit.

She looks better and better each time I see her. She was looking very forlorn on the hard at the Haven Marina for a few years. Glad to see you taking her in hand.

I saw her on Thursday evening as I went out to CdG, and was impressed at how she has come along. Nick has been telling me bits and pieces when I see him.

Look forward to seeing you on the water and would love to see over her if you have the time.

What a delight to see. The lines are very similar to Bosun's (another Robert Clark). You will find, if you havent already, that she sails in a very sea kindly way and gives great joy.

I would love to meet you and sail together.

I am off to Norway but may be back at the end of the season. Matybe we could get together then?

Boat looks fantastic.

You have helped me almost come to a decision too - I don't think I could spend that long refitting a boat so maybe my only option is to cut my losses and move on.
