Getting flares to Ireland

Hello:

I have a boat in Ireland and there are no flares on-board.
I'm trying to get new flares bought and sent to the boat ahead of time so they are on-board ready for the trip to the UK.

So far, I've found one marine supplier in Ireland, who can provide flares, but they are charging twice as much for the flares as suppliers on the UK mainland, so I am reluctant to buy from them.

Does anyone know of an Ireland supplier who chares a reasonable rate or a UK supplier who can deliver to Ireland please?

Thanks

Try CH marine, Cork. They are based in Cork and as they also serve the fishing industry I'd be surprised if they cant deliver to any port in Ireland on the day you want. They are very helpful and you can check the pricing on their site. I generally find I can,t do much better in the UK especially with shipping involved. You can check the prices on https://www.chmarine.com.

I'm pretty sure there were flares for sale in the chandler's at Bangor when I was there last summer.

Almost all chandlers in N.I. sell pyrotechnics, but in the past under the explosives regulations you had to go to a police station to get a permit before you could buy them, I am not sure if and when that legislation was repealed. I would expect the purchase to be less restricted south of the border.

www.bosunbobs.com in Bangor. You will need a permit but it's just a matter of calling into the Police station.

I don't think it's possible to get them posted for safety reasons no matter where you are in these islands.

Ah, right. Thanks. I was thinking of using some stage pyros at a show I did in the Bogside and then again in Dublin, but the paperwork was bad north of the border and horrendous south. Three different approvals needed in Dublin to bang off a single flash.

Ch marine in Newtonards will also sort out flares for you, they keep the packs in stock (they cant post them tho)

CH-Marine is the place that's selling them for twice as much as UK - £168 vs. £89 in the UK - this is my frustration.
I consider paying twice the price a bit of a rip off, (though they are a different manufacturer).

In the end I will probably end up paying this price, but I'm trying to see if there is a viable alternative.

I would not buy fares unless you are specifically required to carry in date flares. An EPIRB with built in GPS will be far more cost effective and reliable if you have a problem. Do register the beacon of course. olewill

Could you get a loan of some and bring them over with you. Then when you return to UK buy some.

Hell - I already have some flares, I just can't get them to Ireland, you can't take them on a plane, and the cost of a ferry (and car at the other side) is more than the flares)

Hello - Good point.
The boat comes with an EPIRB, but I think the current registration has expired, I'll check into it.
Can I register it to myself, even though I don't actually own the boat yet?
