generators

Fischer Panda managed to squeeze a 4.5Kva under the gas locker in my Benny. Very quiet but with some vibration, easy to get used to. Basically a lovely set up - an exhaust water separator with the water exiting below the waterline cuts out the splashing and annoying neighbours. The exhaust sounds much like an Eberspacher exhaust but less raspy. Those on other boats alongside are not bothered unlike when I was running a Honda 2Kva. 1st season with 25 hours so far so maybe a bit early to tell on longevity. Fairly easy to check and top up with oil.
I do advise beefing up the charger to 60 amps plus depending on the battery bank size. A normal shorepower charger is 20 to 30 amps which is fine but the bigger charger cuts down generator running time significantly. Also, if you are going down that route and don't have an inverter already, I suggest a combi unit such a Victron make. Total cost including installation and VAT circa £7,000. Expensive I know but well worth it to SWMBO and I. Hot showers in the morning, AC lighting and hair curlers. Does it add value to the boat? Probably.

Hi
5.75KVA gennies, brand new, electric start are being sold by JBB Tools Ltd tel 08450 214044 and 07813 706848 (usual disclaimers) for £599 plus VAT but including delivery.
I saw these advertised in August 2006 Farmers Trader magazine.
Hope this helps

PS the cartons don't have a picture of a boat on them so perhaps this is why they are a fraction of the price of the ones in the chandlers!

[/ QUOTE ] funny isn't it - after years I have just installed an invertor for the sole purpose of running hair straighting tongs when at anchor..............
