I am relieved - as you say, it may not be right - but after pronouncing it that way for many years it now appears I am in good company...

is that a hard "g" or a soft "g" ? - I've always said "fulljers"

I've always called it 'fulljers', don't know why, but I think that when the London Array guardships quote the name on VHF they say 'fowlgers' with a hard 'g'. But then some of the voices are Dutch and I guess that's how they would pronounce it.

I compromise, and call it fullgers with a hard G. Fulljers Gat doesn't sound right, somehow. (Fulljers Jat, anyone?)

It's good to see how we can get straight to the crux of a subject.
This thread started interestingly about the etymology of the words gat and swatchway, but half the posts are about how to pronounce someone's name.
