Garmin GPSmap 1223xsv rudder indicator

Hi everyone.
I have the above mentioned unit which is running on the latest version (41.05 I think)
All of a sudden I have lost the rudder position indicator, which used to show at the top centre of the Garmin screen. I have two Yamahas 150HP with the drive by wire set up, which does not come with a sensor for the rudder, instead it tells the Garmin where they are pointing at and Garmin translates this info in a shape of a rudder pointing towards the direction the engines are. I have managed to get the rudder position on the LC5 Yamaha display, which does not show a ruder symbol but instead it shows- and + degrees. This is better than nothing but would love to have the rudder indicator back on the Garmin display. Yamaha has said that because the LC5 shows the angle degrees for the engines, this proves that the system is working and it is a Garmin related issue. Has anyone come across this before?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Give Garmin support a call. They are super helpful. If nothing has changed….seems odd to just packup. Only thing i can think of is the check power to your n2k network if the data is sent that way

Well, yes and no. Garmin support came back this am saying is not their problem because the rudder indicator is only compatible with a single engine set up but I beg to differ because the boat came with 2 from new and the rudder indicator was there, however, I want to have a go a the Options Menu and see if amending the number of engines does the trick. The thing is that I am not sure if by doing so, the engine display on the Garmin will only read one or have any other effect. It should not because that particular display feeds from the LC5. Picture below for reference. The rudder indicator used to be in the middle of the screen, right between the gear indicators.Thank you for following up.

Had a quick read. Do you mean CL5 display?

On the garmin, check the nmea 2000 device list. With 2 rudder reference sensors….im guessing one could have failed and the other might be on the list and could be used? The yamaha system could just automatically pickup the working one hence all looks well. Id speak to yamaha as the Garmin is just reading nmea 2000 inputs so i get their position. Any software updates done or any changes at all?

yes, CL5. I had a look at the Yamaha owners manual and the engines I have do not have a rudder indicator per se. How it works apparently is by the engines telling the CL5 their angle position, tilt, etc and the CL5 can sen this info to the plotter which in turn translates this info into the visual representation we see. When the rudder indicator (animation) disappeared, the dealer told me to check my software version as the newer one addressed minor issues and bugs, so I did to the latest one which is 41.05 but it did not resolve the issue. The more I think about it and trace my activity customising the plotter to my needs, the more I think there is a chance I pressed the wrong button somewhere inadvertently perusing something else that took the rudder indicator out of the screen. I am back at the boat on Monday so I will have a go again. Thank you for the above suggestion.

A ha, just what I was thinking. Shame I never found the above on my quest to resolve the issue. This makes me more and more certain that the Garmin or the CL5 is not at fault, the fault lays with the operator (me) for pressing something I should not have. Maybe I added a second engine to the configurator on the Garmin when I was adding new fuel to the database and this took the rudder indicator out. The above, paired with what Garmin told me yesterday then makes a bit of sense. Stay tuned.

I have the same plotter, do you have an autopilot? If so you could try running the sea trial dockside wizard in the autopilot setup as and see if it picks up the rudder sensors which is the first part of the wizard
