Garmin GPS 126/128 not working

how wrong is it? if its just a bit then maybe its reset itself to a different default chart setting to the one you are used to -WGS84. Is it tellig the right time? because i think that is how it works out ts position from the satellites.

The receiver compares transit times from the satellites, but it doesn't use its own idea of wallclock time to do that. In fact, the receiver can find out the time of day from the satellites - GPS receivers are often used for things that require highly accurate time like high-speed financial transactions.

Doing some basic astro lessons on Stavros, we used the ship's GPS as a source of accurate time. The irony was not lost on me :)

I too would suggest checking the datum setting, as I can't think of much else (apart from error or jamming of the GPS signals themselves) that would cause it to show a wrong position rather than no position. Also, page through to the satellite status page, the one with the big circle and bar graph, and it should have an "EPE" figure in the top right corner. This indicates how accurate the GPS thinks its fix is, and may possibly help with diagnosis.

Thanks guys, the time on GPS is about 10mins fast. I think it is the Antenna. I disconnected the cable and there was no change in the info. Is there another way of checking the Antenna?
