I bought the above about 2 years ago and have not yet worked out how to use it. I feel I am not entirely to blame as I have been unable to find a proper manual online. The problem is I cannot discover how to clear the tracks so have 2 years of tracks obliterating the locations I visit frequently. I am able to remove them from the screen but this also means no new tracks are created. When I turn the track back on the whole 2 years of tracks also return. Situation I am in is its all or nothing.

A few days ago I contacted Garmin explaining my predicament and they replied very promptly explaining how to delete the Active Track and the Saved Tracks. They also supplied a link to the correct owners manual for my plotter which is Echomap UHD2 5x/7x. No wonder I have not been able to find the correct manual for my plotter - I have been googling Owners Manual for Garmin Echomap UHD2 75CV - silly me!.

I went to the boat today full of optimism armed with my new instructions but have failed yet again to clear these tracks. The unit just does not seem to function as the manual suggests.

The guy from Garmin said any problems do not hesitate to get in touch which I will do but just wondering whether any of you experts can help me out.

Thanks

Mike

My 92 is not much better !! Wait until you start with Active Captain and updating the machine / charts ! You think you have problems now ...

I have the Echomap Manual - it covers all modelos from the 60 through to the 92 .... its too big to link here ... but if you email / PM me - I can drop you a Dropbox link to it ... or you can download from here :

A Google search for "Garmin Echomap UHD2 75CV" takes you here : Garmin ECHOMAP™ UHD2 7″ cv | Chartplotters

Scroll down and click on "specs", takes you here ; Garmin ECHOMAP™ UHD2 7″ cv | Chartplotters

Click on "Manuals", click "User Manual", takes you here: ECHOMAP UHD2 5X/7X Owner's Manual - ECHOMAP UHD2 5X/7X

You can download from here, although this might be what you already have.

I have the same model as OP and I have had very similar problems with leaving or clearing tracks. I’ve got mine set up so that it doesn’t leave tracks at all now, as I too was getting a build up of old tracks. I fear it may be the Achilles heel of this model but would loved to be proved wrong.

Thanks for replies.

I am wondering whether a software update might solve this issue. I googled Echomap UHD2 75CV software updates and it appears there have been about a dozen. Starting with version 27.10 to the latest from October 2024 version 37. However I have read through the couple of hundred or so softward improvements included in the 12 updates but no mention of the issue in question.

I guess once it can be determined this is an issue Garmin will be able to issue another software update to fix it?

I will try to find my software version next time I am at the boat and take a photo to illustrate the problem.

Last time I attempted to post a photo on here it would not load up as it was too large (too many kb's mb's whatever). Please could someone advise the max kb's in order to upload a photo.

Best way to upload a photo is to use a hosting site such as IMGUR .... its free. Or load the photo into PAINT and reduce its size ...

OK - Updates :

I doubt very much the Tracks issue you have is sorted in any update ... the updates tend to be programming rather than user option use based ... BUT its as well to update your unit .... its a pain with Garmin choosing a strange way to do it ... but after a few updates you start to catch on !!
I updated my Echomap yesterday ....
As to manual needing update after software update ?? Why ? The operating menu etc does not change.

I linked to the manual for all the Echomap Series and Tracks are covered in it ... have you had a read ?

I guess every time a software update is installed the owners manual needs to be adjusted to accommodate the changes???

mike
Not usually, it's mostly bug fixes or improvements that require no additional documentation, rather than additional features.

Track instructions are on pages 36/37

The manual you linked to is for the older Echomap Nigel, the current one is linked in post #3. Although i'm not sure if the track menus are the same or different.

Hello Paul,

I have read the track instructions on pages 36/37 which are identical to the instructions provided by Rob at Garmin. However the instructions bear little resemblance to how my set actually works. Some of the options in the manual such as Manage Data and Clear User data etc just do not appear when using the plotter.

I was hoping a software update might solve my issue but apparently not.

Looks like the only way to clear the tracks would be to do a factory reset, in which case I will lose all other user entered data. Then another factory reset every time I use the set.

Beginning to look as though the unit is pretty useless.

I bought it as a spare/back up. My other plotter is a Lowrance which I am delighted with, the reason I bought a Garmin is the charts are included.

Thanks all for your help, I await a response from Garmin.

Odd that the menu options are not there Mike. Perhaps a software update will help.

Just a chance ... just a try ?? Worth a try ...

What about the Manual I linked to ? Paul reckons its wrong manual - but with most range and evolutions of sets using similar commands etc - maybe it works ... maybe not with that manual ??

It is the wrong manual, it's for the earl model of Echomap, the OP has the later UHD 2.

That said, it's possible the first UHD 2s had the menus from the pre UHD 2 and later software updates included a UI revision. Doesn't happen often, but i did get a major UI update with one of my plotters, looked like a new plotter, took a while to get used to.

I looked at the track instructions in both manuals and the instructions do slightly differ, so certainly worth trying the other manual (y)

Thanks again for advice. No rush. I will take some photos and make detailed notes which I will communicate on here and to Garmin.

Although as I mentioned earlier my issue is not mentioned in the software upgrades I feel it would be a good move.

Do I need to use Active Captain to install the software updates?. This could prove to be another issue as I do not have a phone.

Seems you can use Garmin Express with an SD card to do it?

I can use both Garmin Express (PC based) and Active Captain (Phone / Tablet based) .....

I tried GE but because its PC based - it was SD card all the time and I found more related to the licenced charts installed ... but I am probably wrong about this
Active Captain being Phone / Tablet related means acting on board as long as I can download via internet to phone / Tablet ... then insert the Active Captain SD card in (I created ages ago as per menu instructions) ... and let system do its thing ...

Personally I think its a crap way of doing it ... nothing else I own is so naff !!

It can do both. All Garmin devices that can be connected by USB also use GE for updates of software and data. The help for the UHD 2 device also gives this as an upgrade path.

Also the revision information for it seems to obliquely mention changes to the interface.
