Might not be to everybody's tastes......
There are two versions, one sailing one power with bigger engine. There’s no way that will do 15kn under sail, if it takes 450hp to do it under power. The rig just isn’t big enough or efficient enough. Nonetheless, it’s quite a showpiece.
It’s got just over 3 times our sail area and 20 times the weight, is what I’m basing my guess on. And it’s got in mast furling and no kite. With the kite up, it’s got double our sail area. I don’t doubt it’ll do 15kn under power. There are two versions, one sailing one power with bigger engine.
Exceptional X1 — Hanstaiger
I reckon it's likely do do speeds as claimed....otherwise they got a problem!
I’ve read that. It didn’t change my opinion. I doubt it would change Derek Kelsall’s formula either. The thing is too heavy. Dragonflys can hit 20kn under exceptional conditions, with a power/weight ratio an order of magnitude different. From their ad...
The X1 is an exceptionally well designed trimaran, with all the hydrodynamic advantageous that brings. The sailboat version can reach speeds of 20 knots. The powerboat version can achieve speeds of 30 knots thanks to more powerful engines.
I get where you are coming from, but I really can't see why they would make a false claim of performance. I'm sure they have operational experience or they wouldn't have published the figures.I’ve read that. It didn’t change my opinion. I doubt it would change Derek Kelsall’s formula either. I think we’re all unlikely to even see one, given the likely sales figures. They wouldn't be the first to make wild performance claims for a multihull though.I get where you are coming from, but I really can't see why they would make a false claim of performance. As I'm unlikely to try one, I will never know!
