Future to aquire TI Media

They are obviously keen on boating

We all row the boat.

Everyone at Future has a part to play and a contribution to make because together, we’re stronger.

Let’s do this.

We have a bias for action, taking the best decisions we can and following through on our decisions.
It’s the people in the boat that matter.

We make sure we have the right team for right now, supporting each other, challenging each other and having fun along the way.
Results matter, success feels good.

We restlessly look to improve, be ever creative and unashamedly commercial in our ventures.

However, if you are annoyed by adverts ruining your enjoyment now ... you ain't seen nothing yet.

Epiris only bought TI Media about 18 months ago, they obviously don't think it has great potential.

But, anyone without an adblocker should be prepared for frustrating times! On the other hand, maybe Future will sort out the forums...

I don't think it would be fair to remove all the remainers.

TI Media sold again

Just spotted this in the Telegraph
“MEDIA outfit Future has bought the publisher of Country Life, Homes &
Gardens and Woman’s Weekly magazines for £140m.
The FTSE 250 company, which is *behind niche brands such as technology website Gizmodo UK and trade magazine Music Week, announced the acquisition of TI Media from the private equity firm Epiris yesterday.
Future said the deal will add key
interests to its portfolio including wine, golf, equestrian and gardening. The *acquisition will also bolster
Future’s presence in home, cycling, consumer technology and country sports.
It is the second time in two years that the magazines have changed hands. Epiris bought TI Media, then known as Time UK, in February 2018. Time in turn had bought the business, then known as IPC Magazines, in 1998.
The deal, which is expected to complete next spring, adds TI Media’s 41 brands to Future’s portfolio of 220 titles globally. Within two years, Future
expects to deliver cost synergies of £15m each year.
A shareholder vote on the deal is expected by the end of November.”

Re: TI Media sold again

Hopefully the magazines will be written in language I can understand, unlike this accountobabble.

Not sure it's good news for the increasingly overlapping yachting mags. Distinct lack of 'practical' in PBO these days.
Just tried to call mobile.

If they're overlapping maybe there's a market out there for a new magazine or publication? Bring a whole new level to DIY Boating XD.

On the other hand just buy a second-hand bundle of three consecutive years of PBO from any time in the last five to fifteen years and you'll find that by the end of the second year's reading you'll have garnered everything you really need to know.

Somehow... I'm not sure about that :p

Re: TI Media sold again

Some people around 'ere have over 20 years' of cumulative experience...... and others have 1 year's experience, repeated 20 times.

There is a considerable difference between what you need to know and the little extras that make owning and maintaining a boat so much more enjoyable. I, and several others here, contribute articles to PBO and YM on an irregular basis on topics that are unique. You will not find these in 5 - 15 year old copies, electronics for one being a subject that was rarely covered then.

Indeed!
Im writing an article for consideration about how to strip and refurb injectors for a VP MD22, what the part numbers are, how to identify them and where to source them. I have been subscribing since 2000 and have never seen that before!

Ok, your particular article may be unique (ish). But - I stopped buying PBO five years ago after 15 + years of enjoyment. Reason being exactly the repetition that has been quoted. Just last week I picked up a bundle of 2018 PBO’s from a swap and drop marina “library”. Guess what, Peter Poland, Andrew Simpson, that idiot with the Jack Russell and Sam Llewelyn (Who at least changes his format occasionally.) The only real change is the huge slimming down, surfeit of adverts and the guy from Harbour Marine Services who was poached from this forum anyway. I actually enjoyed flicking through the paper magazine at random over several days at the “coffee“ table. But as far as technical issues are concerned IMHO PBO as a magazine is way past its sell by date.

Re: TI Media sold again

An article of mine is coming up in PBO, next month I think, and I can absolutely guarantee that you have never read anything on this topic anywhere.

Dave Berry's article in the current issue, as with most of his others, is new to me and I have been a subscriber to both PBO and YM for many years.

I think the problem though is that there aren't many people around these days who are going to pay a fiver in a newsagent's shop for a copy of PBO.
