Windward Performance?

The trick is to get where you want to go in the style that you want to travel in. If you want windward performance then you will need to have a Bermudan Sloop, Cutters do not terribly well to windward, nor do Yawls or Ketches. However they are all very fast off the wind, are more comfortable in a blow, have smaller less loaded rigs and sails, so can use shorter masts and possibly smaller crews.

Each for their own but the Schooner is lovely, elegant, and romantic and very salty.

I am, of course, a lover of Schooners.

IMHO, limited windward performance.

Bermudian - 10% better on the wind

Gaff - 15% better of the wind

My 5 litre straight six goes straight into the wind!
