Does anyone please know the nmea cable inputs for the furuno 1623, trying to connect my Garmin GPSMAP 180 - no probs with that output but the connections for the nmea lead on the radar are obscure to say the least.
Help !
and thanks in advance.

I've just had a quick look at the manual <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.busse-yachtshop.de/pdf/furuno1623.pdf> here </A> .
It appears that the Furuno 1623 has two NMEA channels on connector J1352
The first channel is capable of transmit/ receive, the second channel is receive only.
As you are connecting a GPS to the unit it would be better to connect it to channel 2.
Pin 3 and Pin 4 are designated as channel 2 input.
Connect the Garmin output to pin 3 and Garmin Ground to pin 4.

Make sure that you follow the instructions regarding setting the NMEA sentence both on the Garmin and the Furuno.

I hope that my interpration is correct and that I haven't confused you with my explanation.

regards
Claudio

Thank you both for your replies, I was getting a bit confused by the -H and -C on the two channels, and what channnel did what, but I think it's clearer now.
Thanks again. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I assume H means 'hot' or + and C means 'cold' or -
