I need to refurbish the Furlex 300 TD on my boat.
The furler rotates easily by hand, but there is a high or stiff point, which is there on every rotation, regard less of the load.
The boat was built in 2007, and has a lot of miles under the keel.
I have the manual with exploded diagram, and I've research the "University of YouTube" and found several useful video's, the best one so far seems to be:
This is for the deck unit.
Before I take it apart I'd like to have the spare parts I need to hand.
There's no problem getting the ball bearings, simply bearing have them ex stock at very reasonable prices.
The only other parts which might wear, are the races, for example:
Reference on the exploded diagram:
A5 - Ball bearing ring-outer Ø 83/64-16 2 Selden part number 539-270 for a 10mm rod forestay. It takes 6mm ball bearings.
This is part of the halyard swivel, but there are several other races in the Furler.
Selden UK say that they are on back order.
Questions:
Are these races likely to be damaged? The riggers I've spoken to think it's unlikely, the general opinion is that the Furlex 300 is bombproof.
Is there an easy way to tell if they are worn?
Am I likely to be able to buy them from a bearing supplier?
Do you think it's likely that Selden will make their own ball races, or design the furler to use standard races?
Is there anything else that might be worn in the furler?
