Fuel Tank Position

I am in process of changing fuel tank for a smaller one. Current tank is halfway up deck locker, would it matter if i fitted smaller one lower in locker to give more space. In other words does tank have to be higher than engine, equal high or can it be lower, will fuel still feed engine ?

Will work okay if your engine is fitted with a lift pump,
However most people like the tank higher than the injector pump in
case of lift pump failer, If its higher it will gravity feed the pump
and should keep the engine running. all the best with it.
