Having been 'Boatless in Brightlingsea' for the past 7 years, we have once again bought a boat!
'Pagan Lady' is a tidy little Colvic 26 bought over in Fambridge and strangely was originally a Brightlingsea boat when brand new in 1982. She has been ashore for a while now due to the previous owners ill health and amongst the little jobs to be done we have had the stern gear re-packed as it had not been attended to for a while and was reported to be "slightly more than weeping, more like crying!" The engineer who did the job for us is very busy and couldn't fit us in straight away and we had to wait a couple of weeks after ownership changed hands. No problem, plenty of time to bring her back!
So the time comes to re-launch...solid South Westerly gales for close on two weeks then follow.
As the engineer who contorted himself into the engine bay to do the re-packing required access to the stern gear once in the water it was not practical to have the batteries back in place so she could be motored out of the slings and it would have to be the yard boat alongside her towing her onto a berth. The marina (understandably) were not too keen on doing this in 30 knot plus breezes.
Then our comedian Prime Minister announces the lockdown he should have done about 2 months ago and all of a sudden things become a shade more urgent.
The forecast looked reasonable for today and the plan was to put her in today and my son and I would bring her home on Wednesday.
The best laid plans of Mice and Men...it is still blowing a shade more than a working breeze, so she will now remain ashore until the end of November...when I am expecting a sequence of gales to run through until we have a further lockdown!
Can someone PLEASE remind me why we go sailing?
