Thanks to all for your advice on the Peltier unit for my fridge. I have actually managed to repair the original as the rheostat was faulty. I have cut out the rheostat and wired in directly to the "economy" and "fast cool" switch. Result? it works and cools a treat! I don't actually need 7 different settings anyway.

Did you get your boat launched eventually then Dave?

I am going down on Friday afternoon to give the boat a good wash - it has been in the water all winter and I have not been much. My old man has been a bit, but he is not keen on cleaning, especially in the cold.

For some perverse reason I am looking forward to it, even though I wont get to go out. Am then busy all weekend doing the ICC course with some mates. Not sure where we are doing int - just trying to work out why I have paind £150 to spend a day in a classroom and on a rib in the cold!

Yep - she's back on her mooring in Porthmadog! Rob Walker took her back for me 'cos I'm at work all this week. When I spoke to him he said "yeah, she's fine - handles lovely doesn't she. It only took 10 minutes from Pwllheli Fairway to Porthmadog Fairway - 42 knots all the way"

So that's all my crockery broken then!!!

By the way, I did my ICC in January last year - it was great for two reasons. 1) There are fewer people out there wanting to brave bad weather, so the instructor / pupil ratio is much better and 2) If you can make a good job of boat handling in poor weather, the summer will be a cinch!

I hope you enjoy it - and Pwllheli as well.

hmmm...enjoy Pwllheli, unlikely - apart form the Marina.

Will be doing the course in Abersoch I think, but actually have no idea as my mate has sorted all the arrangements.

Have been boating since I was 5, but never actually taken ant tests or exams, so will be quite an odd experience.

As for the Windy handling, have heard they are good. When I was growing up my Dad had two 19/20 foot Draco's which are (or were) from the same stable. They were great and you could throw them around all over the place in all sorts of sea conditions without feeling in any danger. Often look att he new Windy's at boat shows and think they look the absolute business.

In terms of build quality and solidity they put all the UK makes, and I mean all, to shame. However this is reflected in their pricing, so I guess you get what you pay for.
