free book on single handed sailing

It's a superb book and well worth reading as it makes you consider, in so many ways, whether you are getting the best out of your boat and, if not, how this might be achieved with simple, no-cost examples.

He has also produced a very readable free book on astro nav.

Hi Dylan +1 for the book link, must ask you how is the Slugs refit doing by her new owner as she was the start of KTL

Just Sailing

Thanks Dylan and Captain Haddock. I will read it with interest. I read the first chapter. It struck me tha tthis is a special kind of person. He suggested only 1 in 10million people become single handed log distance racing sailors. Probably quite correct. That does not mean of course that we should all aspire to be one of those. Indeed I though that his comments about prefering to sail alone than with a crew might indicate an inabilty to tolerate other people on his boat.
We have a famous solo sailor in our sailing community here.He sailed once around the world, then once non stop, then twice non stop then finally 3 times around non stop. Now obviously a superb sailor but in whole of life probably a very sad individual. I hate to criticise but obviously someone very different to ordfinary. Yes that is fine but not necessarily for the rest of us to emulate or aspire to. As I said in another post today life is not just about sailing but sailing can contribute to a "good " life.
So while I thank this solo sailor for his free book and will find his experiences interesting I actually enjoy the company of my crew and of sharing the joy especially when racing and mostly now could not be bothered going sailing alone.(I have sailed single handed a few times) Perhaps I am more of a people person. But of course every oen to their own choice. olewill
