Frances 26, talk me out of it!

Well I was racing against a Verl 26 and GK24 and managed to give them a run for their money. Decent sails and a clean bottom helps. The cutter rig IS slow downwind...better to broad reach, or explore a spinnaker or cruising chute as some members have done.

Loosely meaning long keeled fairly heavy displacement.

I would guess though that the Francis like the Vertue is built for heavier stuff than most Folkboat derivatives and is bound to be a bit slower. Most of the 'derivatives' also very much had racing in mind.

As mentioned, total sail area may be worth looking into.
