In June MBY theres an article on the Canal de Midi. under the sub title Papers pease it says that all helmsman
need to have an ICC and the boat must carry a copyof the CEVNI rules. However it does'nt mention wether
the helmsman needs to have done a test for the CEVNI to be permitted on the French waterways. Is this so ?

Yes think so, that's what I did last year. Passed the CEVNI exam, it's a multi part easy peasy question paper, but you really do need Marian Martin's book, published by the RYA it summarises the rules etc. Then send it off to the RYA and they issue the ICC stamped up with the CEVNI too. Didn't know you had to carry the book though.

BTW if you've not already got the ICC so are doing the two. it's cheaper to join the RYA and then they'll issue the certificate for free I think plus the joining fee of £25 as against £29 for just the cert.

Correct on all counts Colic

And you do need to carry the book, makes sense really, don't think I'd remember a single thing from the exam!!!

Re: Seems strange

You've confirmed my suspicions that you need the CEVNI exam, seems strange that a mag like MBY
neglects to mention it.

Re: Seems strange

Clive, "test" consists of about 14 questions on the cevni rules. And yes, you do need it for the canals, you will have to produce
ICC /CEVNI
SSR/PART1 certificate ( to prove boat size and engine horsepower )
Insurance.

This is to obtain you "Vignette" (licence) from VNF
You will also need to carry proof of VAT status ( although I havent been asked for it )

Re: Seems strange Col

Thanks Col all clear now, still seems strange MBY did'nt mention the need for it, of course I forgot their collective
heads are firmly in the super yacht clouds which of course could'nt go the Midi route, they must have done
the article just to appease us humble low air draft geezers.
