I thought I'd post here rather than coninue a rant in the For Sale section possibly aimed at me ! I put two items up for sale on eBay over the weekend with links to them from the forums For Sale section which appears to be allowed. The reason being is quite simply that a) I'd hope to gather a more interested section of people looking and b) I have more buyer/seller protection. Although I had stated that these items were for sale on eBay within the bulk of the message, I should have also indicated "On eBay" in the title. Apologies all round.

It wasn't just you, I spent 20 odd mins this morning adding "ON EBAY" to offending adverts.

You can come off the naughty step now :D

From now on I'll just zap any ebay ads if I see them and it's not in the title. I've amended the blurb at the top of the For Sale forum so it now says :

"For Sale Free classified adverts up to a value of £400 per item. If you're linking to Ebay you MUST state this in the title."

What is the thinking behind this ebay policy and the £400 limit if I may be so bold?

The limit was much lower. Then following feedback a few years ago it was increased to £400. We didn't allow links to other sites, but to give sellers a way of selling items over the £400 limit it was decided to allow links to Ebay, as this offers buyer/seller protection for items of any price.

Some people (sellers) like the auction style, other people (buyers) don't :)

As long as EBAY is stated in the title, those who want to buy via Ebay can, those who don't, won't.

The problem has arisen where sellers aren't stating that their advert on the for sale forum is on Ebay, so someone clicks on their link expecting to see a price, and all they get is a link, and after doing that a few times it is, quite frankly, annoying.

Not questioning your ability / right to do that but am curious why it matters to you or ybw. Why are you taking this line?

It doesn't matter a jot to me :) but there are rules in place if anyone would like to sell things on the for sale forum they should follow the rules set down by IPC, these were drawn up by Dan, in consultation with users and the powers that be. The forum rules have been there for a couple of years and are mostly adhered to, but for some reason the winter attracts sellers who either aren't aware of the rules, haven't read the rules or don't care about the rules, and it appears to be winding a lot of regular users up, ie those who know about and adhere to the rules.

There are only 4 rules, none are asking too much of anyone, and all are easy to follow without too many problems.

Here's the post at the top of the for sale forum:

Thanks to all your feedback on the For Sale forum. We're going to make two important changes to this forum:

1. New forum limit is £400. We still want to keep this relatively low as we hope this forum will act as somewhere where we can exchange odds and sods, rather than a major trading post. As such, we're changing rule:

2. You MAY now post link to auction websites. This allows users who want to sell products over the limit to do so in a secure environment (for the buyer an the seller). However, we will still not allow links to BOATS FOR SALE of any type, whether that be on auction sites or otherwise. IF YOU ARE POSTING A LINK TO EBAY IN YOUR THREAD, PLEASE STATE SO IN THE THREAD TITLE.

3. This is not a place to advertise company websites or wholesale, it's for individuals selling items they no longer want, not for commercial ventures.

4. Please state the price of the item on your post. Items over the limit of £400 will be removed and please do not make offers such as 'Half of this engine for £400' as these will be removed too."

See simples :)

In the unlikely event of a boat being offered for £400 or less, what is the objection to it being advertised in the YBW For Sale section? Just nosey!

I see no ships;)

Inflatable boats, deflated, aren't boats, any other tender will be treated as such. Any boat that isn't a tender is a boat, any boat that is a tender is a tender, and a liferaft is a liferaft:D

This rule is open to interpretation, so if you catch me on a bad day it will get zapped, catch Natalie on the good day and it will stay, until I see it when I'm grumpy and it will go:rolleyes:

Clear? no? good :D
