Another massive steel boat bought by two people to reconvert to a sailing ship.I wonder if it will get certification to carry paying crew,at the momment just looks like a lot ofwork
Some people like a car crash - I hope they do walk away, as I don't think (from what I've seen in the videos) they have anywhere near the funds to do the work required. They seem a pleasant couple. An interesting site on You Tube and at least they listen to advice and next week will be interesting to hear what the surveyor has to say about the boats condition
My only concern is their finance/budget as we all know there's a load to buy, refit, update and renew for not exactly a small boat and at least they said they were prepared to 'walk away' if the surveyor had serious concerns
Yes I agree a good survey before buying any boat and especially one this age and size would have been a very wise thing to do, however there may be wisdom in what they are doing as no surveyor will dismantle anything for access other than hatch and sail covers etc so their plan to get a surveyor now may be a wise one as we have seen when they have removed the insulation exposing the steel hull internally and they at least face up to reality and listen to adviceI don’t recall a surveyor involved in the purchase and yet they seem a serious couple. The days are long gone we’re you can Willy nilly take out paying guests or crew without proper certification and just getting that vessel up to standard without the hull condition will cost thousands I imagine,I hope they were not thinking of going down the YouTube patron path.
Not too late,I’ll buy a wreak?Yes I agree a good survey before buying any boat and especially one this age and size would have been a very wise thing to do, however there may be wisdom in what they are doing as no surveyor will dismantle anything for access other than hatch and sail covers etc so their plan to get a surveyor now may be a wise one as we have seen when they have removed the insulation exposing the steel hull internally and they at least face up to reality and listen to advice
I also hope they do not go down the You Tube patron path sadly like 'ship happens' and many others, On the subject of You Tube patrons it has never stopped to amaze me just how many people send people money to them so you can go off sailing around the world or pay for things while you are renovating something!
The site 'Sailing Project Attacus' is a classic patron site from buying a 50 year old yacht for $5000 and with patrons funds a few years later buy another one for $ 150.000 then spend a fortune refitting it and now just sailing around the world and neither work
I must have gone wrong in life somewhere
