Off to boat show to look over ideas as to a good all round circa 42 foot flybridge cruiser.
Has to be reasonable value for money, plenty of light into main cabin, and a good sea boat. I thought of the Fairline 40, but perhaps it a bit small, the princess 42 is that now getting a bit dated... so what else is out there that I should put on my must view list.

Help please from learned forumites.

the Azimut 43 is quite modern and shoot tick many boxes IMO
if you want something smaller check there new 38 which will be World premiered also in Southampton

Beneteau should also launch a 43 Antares but I dont know if this is your style
Prestige will be presenting also a 39 at Cannes, and there 42 is a bit dated

ah dont forget the Spaniards
I think both the Rodman 44 Muse and Astondoa AS42 are nice boats, and both are available with 3 cabins
Cranchi also have there 43 Atlantique with IPS but it is a 2 cabin version

don't know if the EURO vs UK£ will help to make this very competitive but giving a look will never harm...

Something different .... Skorgenes Sonic 445... with Zeus ... or Shaft drive..

A bit of a left field choice but the Nordwest 420 http://nordwest.se/index_2.php?option=displaypage&main=127&subid=381&show=381 has received many accolades. Its one of the few flybridge boats around this length with IPS and it can have 3 sleeping cabins. I dont know Nord West personally but the build quality is supposed to be first class and the seakeeping excellent

the Nordwest is a good choice

for the Sealine F42/5 I would be careful honestly seeing how the brand is drastically changing its style in the recent years
going from the extreme curves to a slabish squaish shape

don't forget the Galeon 440 Fly, standard three cabin plan and available with both shafts and IPS

Yes indeed nowt wrong with the Princess 42 IMHO. The Sealine 42/5 is also a nice boat with some clever features like extending bathing platform

Hardy 42 with Seatorque drives? great sea boat and probably good economy.

when I looked at a Hardy 42, they seemed quite pleased with 6 litres/nm, which is about 40% more than a similar sized planing boat I'd guess? So even with improved efficiency from your fancy shafts, not sure I'd say "good" economy. Maybe comparable with the rest. Perhaps.

The upcoming Squaddie 41? Got to be worth considering if it is going to be available in 2010.

Eh, wassat? How does that fit with the philosophy that the Sq range starts where the Phantom range finishes?

Thanks, missed that. The rebranding makes sense too. I always thought that it was a bit unfair on punters who spent as much as £600k on a Phantom 50 that they should be made to feel like 2nd class boaters compared to Squaddie buyers. In fact, I wouldn't mind betting that a few buyers were put off altogether by the them and us branding strategy
So I guess the Sq41 is a Phantom 40 with knobs on?

interesting also the rebranding of Targa and Sqadron and Fairline promising smaller Squadonts from 35 feet, this will be an interesting challenge
I like the Fline strategy
the 41 Squadron looks also a very nice boat, and if you have the patience and confidence to buy on plan then you could go for it...
I would not mind this but I would also do it with subject to confirmation on viewing of hull number one
