So how many forumites are going to be out on the water for the fleet review? Are you going out all day or just for the display in the evening? I still haven't decided what to do!
We will be in Gosport that evening, if we can get to Gosport that is! We are preparing to sail, leaving 0400 on Weds to start a sail to Cork (or is it Kinsale? We'll make our mind up sometime). It will be interesting weaving our way out down the Solent. Mind you I'm not on watch 'til about 10.00 so will still be sound asleep (hope)
We (self plus 3 crew) are going out Monday evening, weather permitting, to find a decent anchorage. Will then maintain an anchor watch during the night. Might use the dinghy to get take turns going ashore for a pint or two.
After the Fleet Review and the flying display, I plan head back to So'ton rather than join the battle at Southsea. NOt sure you will see much from behind the scenes, even if you can get close enough.
We are based in Gosport but I will not venture out for the review. I think the view will be as good from Gilkiker without the hassle. We saw the navy firing smoke flares to simulate the son etc. The best view will be from Southsea common at the end nearest the Castle. Thats where your acshull royals will be. Trust them to get the best seats. There is also a posh tent for the toffs there.
There is a dress rehearsal of the review on Monday which might be a better day to go out on the water. I had thought the view from Haslar sea wall would be good but that is out of bounds apparently.
We'll be out as well.
All day and into the evening is the plan.
Return to Hamble after the fireworks.
Don't expect to do any sailing but we will drink a few bottles of champers.
Going out on one of the Navy press boats, cant wait. Also hoping to get a special trip up spinnaker tower to take some photos! The i am back here for a few days before heading back for IFOS, what a hectic few weeks its been! Cowes Week is less than 40 days away and the nights a drawing in as well!
We (me, two mates and three SWMBOs) are chartering a 40ft bene for the week and plan to anchor somewhere Monday night to get a good view Tuesday. I've never sailed in the Solent before /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif - do you think it will be crowded? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Yes, the expectation is that it will be horrendously crowded, particularly on the Tuesday. The warnings in the LNTMs pouring out of QHM are enough to put some people off!
We'll - me, SWMBO and daughter no 2 - be out (we won a pass to take part in the sail past in the afternoon) though may retreat afterwards to watch the fireworks, son et lumiere etc from the shore.
But why are they categorising everything as tallship?
Has everyone got their SSBs ready so they can communicate with their nearest neighbouring vessel? With the amount of "Not going cos its gonna be too crowded" comments going round it could be a nice day! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
