Off the SW British coast I cant hear the CG weather reports half the time, so presume if I did a MayDay they wouldn't hear me either. We did have a heartening response doing a PanPan from rope round rudder prop and keel as the local Lifeboat was getting ready for practice 3 miles away, but I can hardly guarantee such proximity if a more serious incident occurs, and often there is no ship in sight and thus range.

We carry EPRIB & PLB but an hour is a long time if you are sinking or on fire. So its full flare-pack for us

Same for me basically. I have come to the conclusion that the CG use different, lesser (or lower) aerials for the Safty-weather bulletins, or matbe different land links to the aerials. I would like to know the chapter and verse on this question, but we are lucky to get anything after the scandalous cuts to HMCG funding..not looking a gift horse in the mouth..
