I have a few old out of date flares and a old Co bottle still full for a liferaft,can anyone tell me where I can dispose of these.

Hello Steve,

Certainly the chandlery should be able to advise regarding the CO bottle but flares that have passed there use by date are rarely useless.

Unless we're talking years it's worth keeping hold of them on board. I'm not saying dont buy a new set but the chances are that the old 'uns will be fine. You never know when they might come in handy!

mmm well I would hold on to out of date flares... last year I heard about a boat that sank in the Irish Sea ... all the new (in date) flares failed to work so the owner resorted to his old out of date flares and BINGO ... they went off!
 
Bear in mind that orange smoke and red pinpoints lose their colour and can easily go pink or white. Hence "Help I'm in the poo" becomes "I'm here, don't hit me please".

As above - don't rely on old flares even if they do go off.
