Depending upon your type of hatch it is unlikely that you will need sealant at all. The new seal should fit into a keyway in the frame and should be fitted dry so that it can be replaced at a later date. This is certainlly the case with our GEBO hatches.
I changed my hatch seals 2 years ago (CANPA) - round section and square section seals - and was recommended by the supplier to use a contact adhesive such as Evo stick.
FWIW We use Evo stick on all our hatch seals at work.
