As mentioned previously here, I am considering fitting main power to my boat.

Probably the best place in terms of easy routing of the incoming cable for the inlet plug is in the (Petrol) outboard well. The tank is remote. The cable can easily route through the open side of the outboard well. It is unlikely the cable would be in situ with the engine running or unplugged under load.

Sorry, for some reason this picture is displaying in portrait format despite being loaded to Photobucket as landscape.

The alternative is in the storage locker but this would mean notching the edge to take the inlet cable and I am concerned that this might introduce a weakness.

I am slightly wary of a socket in close proximity to petrol even though the outboard locker is open to the side, the engine is new (Not the one shown in the picture), the fuel pipe is rarely disconnected and the tank is remote but this is my preferred location. Would others be concerned?

With regard to the connector. I quite like the look of ones similar to these. It will be in a protected location but is the plastic brittle?

We have ours in the cockpit locker. The notch for the cable is no problem. You could always reinforce around the notch with a few layers of glass mat and resin.
I wouldn't have a potential spark anywhere near petrol.
