Has anyone got any experiance with the Garmin fishfinder100 or the Lowrance X47
Which is the better if the two?
The Garmin is a bit cheaper than the lowrance.
The basic use with be the depth function in fresh water on a 22 footer.
any info will be greatly received.

Thanks Rog

Go the bit extra for the 100 blue. Another twenty pounds I think. Dual frequency and works better at speed. Also gives you battery voltage and water temp plus speed if you buy the extra transducer.

sorryfor the sales pitch but if it saves you money I'm sure you appreciate it.

we have got the Garmin FF100 with transom mount transducer on offer at the moment at £95 inc vat.

Dual frequency BLUE not necessary for depth only use, better for finding fish though!

Can the transom mount transducer be replaced with a thru hull one that can be placed before the keel?
I have been offered a fishfinder called " bottomline" that the transducer can be transom hung or put in an "oil Bath" inside the hull and can apparently "see" thru the grp, does this make sense?

Thanks Rog

my days of transom transducers are over all you have to do is fix the transom transducer in the bottom of your boat with clear mastic.
put iy just to the side of your keel in the same position it would be as it would be on the transom.
works just as well

Hi Rog,

I have a Garmin FF160 Blue on board my 35 foot sailbaot.
It works very well and is easy to read and easy to use. It works at speeds upto 10 kts (can't seem to get my boat to go any faster!)
The prime advantage for me is the better picture I get of the bottom with the dual frequency transducer. I love getting so much more info than just depth. I can tell the difference between, sand, mud, weed shingle and rocks. Makes a huge difference when you are looking for somewhere to drop the hook.
The transducer can be either epoxyed to the inside of the hull, mounted through the hull or sat in an oil bath.
Go for the Garmin
