I am currently in Port Edgar Marina. It is under the bridges. The old Forth Bridge is a work of genius and an acoustic treat as the trains rattle across it. The road bridge has a steel deck so it is also noisy - but the acoustic ebbs and flows through the day - as do the tides. They are also building the new road bridge - wonderful to see it growing every day. Magnificent cranes and giant barges.

Katie L overwintered in Granton Harbour at the Forth Corinthian Yacht Club. Crane in day was set for the 11th so I drove up on the 8th. High winds of 40 plus were predicted for the 11th so they cancelled the crane and I spent a week aboard Katie L in a boat yard stern to the prevailing wind. Every night I wedged the wash boards with cardboard to stop them rattling.

I had a fan heater though - and a hot water bottle.

The boat was ready so I had very little fettling left to do.

I touched the Zen.

The FCYC considers itself to be a working man's yacht club and only launches on saturdays when the engineers, firemen and bakers can take a day off to help with lift in day. So we launched on the 18th - 20 boats in one day - big job.

£57 for lift in.

I took the boat from Granton to Port Edgar (£230 a month on a pontoon with free lekkie, free internet, good showers, nice cafe).

On Monday I went for a drift up the Fprth - Limekilns and Charlestown. The sand estuaries off Leuchars airforce base look marvelous, the Tay looks good as well.

Port Edgar is a very nice marina, Edinburgh is a wonderful city, the sailing is marvelous.

think I might hang around the Forth for a bit longer than I thought.

so I would like to apologise for the later arrival of films about the west coast of Scotland

and.....

is there anyone in the Edinburgh area who would be prepared to look after Maggie for the odd overnight as Jill and I take Katie L up the Forth and the Tay. Day sail;s she can come with us - but getting a labrador 20 feet up a harbour wall os a challeneg

Here is a film of Maggie.

She is easy going, serene, loves food and her bed and is utterly house trained with a 12 hour bladder

Deepest apologies to those who are awaiting the west coast films.

Hi Dylan, So nice to see you wittering again. I missed your cheery missives and suspected you had retired and taken a well earned rest.

I myself will be going through the Caledonian Canal when the hole is fixed, some time in 2018 I believe from here on the Beauly Firth.

Sukie will be aboard and needs much less food than a dug.

Dylan, I may have seen you last Monday off Limekilns if that was you about an hour before high water. I was out and there was only one other boat. Welcome to west of the bridges! If I can help with info on upper Forth I'll be only too pleased.

well she is a trailer sailer

I have a trailer

but the micra is clearly not man enough to tow the boat

so anything is possible

the future is always uncertain

I did notice that the films of Solent did pretty well for me

the website and paypal got busy as I was posting the solent films - around 100,000 hits a month

so it pays to film in the popular places - because English sailors like to see films of places they already know before they will risk watching a film about a place they have never been to

on the assumption that it works the same way for the men of Scotland then KTL cash flow would suggest that I should get across to the Clyde as quickly as possible and make films about busy places.

So for cash flow reasons taking a Boat up the Cromarty might have to go on the back burner for a while

unless I get a massive legacy

We spent two weeks around the Firth in the Centaur - it is a pitiful amount of time to devote to a place but I hope you will enjoy the films when they are posted this coming autumn.
