First Trip Out in the Solent

Gunwharf!! SWMBO loved it, all those Shops did GBH to my wallet big time, barely had enuf left for the diesel back to
Lowestoft!!. Keep SWMBO's away from Gunwharf!!

That was also my experience last time I went there. I have now stopped mooring at Beaulieu or in their river as I reckon their fee structure is absurd.

Try Shepards wharf cowes, best place to go when it's cold.

Large pontoons, plenty of space this time of year, elec supply so no need to run a geny. (Only 16 amp though)

5 minute walk into town for a largs choice of food and drinking places

Would of been there myself but the boats out for a week.

...Gunwharf also good for the cold and you can book ahead for a space on 02392 836732 and that has 32 amp supply.

You on, on Saturday David? We may pop in to do the tour, but will probably go elsewhere for the evening.. Will give you a wave if we see you /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No Rick, the patrols have not started as yet, but new recruits are undergoing assessment/training on Saturday.

I will however be in Harbour as I'm doing a course for Chas 25,his partner and brother on Saturday and Sunday. So I'll keep an eye out for you.

Newtown Creek is quite nice for a lunch stop off, just pick up one of the bouys on the left fork as you enter. very sheltered and peaceful.

Mind you better ask skippy first, I draw 1.2m can't remember what the depth is but there were a couple of bigish Grand Banks in there and we were rafted up to a squadie 58.

Where ever you go - I'm sure you'll pass by this place - & show due deference.

Andy ypu have a space after the .jpg - stops it working but I looked at the link and instantly saw the pontoon of salvation on a bouy hopping night that had to many buoys!!

SWMBO will like that and yes - she will insist on a visit to it on the way out.

Not sure how anyone can go on a cruise round the solent. You can visit the whole bloody lot in a day. Besides, yer boats far to big to go to any of the really interesing places. ( Is there any interesting places) Hum. Yarmouths ok'ish if they will let you in. Lymington is nice on the town quay, again not sure if your allowed there. Seem to remember red lines that you had to park boat between. A bit like car parking lots at Tesco. Always wondered how this system was going to work for boats!! Poole quay is good, but you need fender boards, theres are crap if you can find any. Trouble is they stuff you in the naff marina if it's not full. Luckily it's always been full when I was around. I would think best bet would be. Leave big boat where it is and cruise round in dinghy. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Nver mind visting places first of all , what you need to do some boating.

For starters, there all all those nice sailing yachts, who are partly out for a sail but mainly i reckon they want to ride some white water so if you whizz roundem a bit, they love it and often wave in wild appreciation.

Yarmouth and lymington are quite nice.

Rest of it relies heavily on having mates along. Hah, we went to this pub in Gosport, with some forumites and it was RUBBISH! And then we went to a restaurant in cowes and that was rubbish too. But a great weekend.

Looks like all the suggestions are great, they are all pretty places with nice pubs etc. Minor point...

The wind is gonna be 22mph from the east on Saturday and that's when the solent is pretty awful. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
It's going to back a little and ease Sunday so perhaps then may be worth a jolly. Enjoy. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bucklers hard...thats my favourite. Food and pints up the pub all good stuff.
I think you can spend a week round all the places to visit in the solent, and what a good time to do it . All before the fair weather sailers get invloved and fill the places up.
Enjoy.

Blame me if you want. I'm just the messenger. Dependes on your wants. You were talking about legs for boat, so could go to little, or not fancy places. A few months ago.

Trouble with UK it's not really built for much bigger than 40ft. If bigger, put in some dock some place. Or miles out at sea. I hear some places can be good, as frequented by girls in very short skirts. Apparently they will do nearly anything for very little money.

Up the Hamble you will find massive boat park type places. Bit like the whatsit Towers except length ways.

You can park there. Prob.

I hear that the Red Line ferry are having problems. Have you thought of adding a ramp. Free parking and loads of friends visiting daily.. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

yea .... if i did away with the aft cabin I could have a ramp ... coulnt I? Make a fortune and when i hit something it would not do as muc damage would it?

You are really full of freat ideas today hlb .... thanks for the unique propositions!
