Hi all

A friend recently told me of a fabulous documentary about a young Norwegian man who decided to go sailing to the South Pole. He'd never sailed before. He bought a small cruising yacht - and did just that! Apparently there was a documentary on TV a couple of months ago - filmed by himself, and 2 other waifs and strays he picked up in Argentina - which was just incredible. Highlights included playing the flute among the ice and whales surfacing to listen, and one of the lads lying down next to a Walrus (yes - a Walrus), only to get bitten. They survived, and made it back after many trials and tribulations. Crazy.

Did anyone see it? Does anyone know anything about it (i.e. date of transmission, channel, name)? I'd love to get hold of a copy from the channel which aired it but need to get some more info on it first.

Any info much appreciated! Thanks.

I think he also wrote a book about, I’m sure I’ve read it, problem is I’ve read so many sailing books they all seem to merge into each other, ill have a look tonight.

The program was called extreme lives, broadcast on ch4. The yacht was a very early Albin Vega with an outboard motor fitted, I still have a copy of the video.

Highlights included a pierhead jumper from Argentina who had been married a couple of days (or something of that order). He also jumped ship at The Falklands or South Georgia. Either didn't want to go home or didn't want to see the adventure through.

Amazing documentary. Well worth following up.
