After debating a million ways to bolt it to the floor, I gave in and cut a hole as per suggestions for the best solid and safe fitment.

I got a blanking plug as a free sample from a component website, ideal at the bargain price of free! All bolted down with locking nuts and big washers.

Now...

The pipes are essentially too short. Any recommendations for the inlet and waste pipes? Ideally the more flexible to get fitted the better

The plunger will only last about 12 months before it starts to stick.
I lubricate it by putting a teaspoon of olive oil into the bowl a couple of times a week.....
or you can take out the plunger and cover with vasoline.[messy]

If you heat the old pipes with boiling water you will probably able to force them onto the outlet pipe.

Agree re olive oil, but won't Vaseline (a petroleum based product) affect the rubber on the plunger ? Just asking as I was always led to believe one shouldn't use it in that application but use a water based lubricant ...?

+1 I found a jam jar sized plastic container and filled it with very hot water... perfect for dipping your end in to get it nice and soft ! Slips over nicely then...

Noted with the olive oil/ Vaseline maintenence - always handy to know how these things should be looked after.

once we have new pipe work to fit - i'll attack that with hot water before i try antthing mor eextreme. We already have new SS clips for the pipes.
