Fifty Feet of Grey (steel)

I can't wait to see this buzzing around CI waters. I know it's a massive challenge and logistical nightmare, but I envy your opportunity to spec and build your own boat. Good luck with it all.

Rob,

massive project, well done, will definitely keep a v.close look at it :D
+1000 on the timelapse camera especially since around 50% of the built period you'll be underwater drinking helium or whatever other funny gas they're feeding you down there :p
We need to have a constant feed of info on the thread!

good luck (you're going to need it!)

cheers

V.

Big tides in the CI Place
Big Project
Big Bet on
Never been to the CI Place
Rob
When it's seaworthy and fettled
I'll pop across
I,m good at finding sticky out rock things
Just to test the integrity of the hull etc
:D

Whilst we are hot on the subject of stabilisers this evening, I have osmotech studying drawings for fitment.
Either as built in, or, more likely... designed in.... and fitted later....
Either way, the weight and size has come down to a point where they are suitable, and not modded from a larger boat.

But....the stabilisers will cost more than the cost of building your hull.

quite possibly. but even if i dont fit them, i have to prep the hull for them. its really the first system suited for a boat this small, and to not do the prep work is madness. Overall they are a major expenditure, even more than two brand new 6.7litre motors.

Did you consider the cummins factory reconditioned units? As good as new, 40% cheaper, allegedly!

yes, I looked at them and the spec and price. they were my favoured until i got a cracking price for a pair of new 6.7qsb in 480 rating.
volvos were massively over the top price wise. cats were too heavy. pound for pound these came up trumps.
the 6.7 is not available yet as a factory recon unit. the torque and performance figure that I saw from cummins at SIBS were enough for me.

Just gained four feet of accommodation space.
V drives are go. Very very happy.... 3 cabins is now a very distinct proposal. Before, i don't think it would have been so achievable. Foot of the beds will be under the cockpit sole, fuel tanks under these beds. No change to hull, just engine mountings. Gearbox is ZF85IV with a 2.493 ratio. Giving a shaft speed of 1323 @3300rpm.
CJR are supplying props, and stern gear. Possibly shafts too.
Trend are on with the glazing.
