If you want 'Town' and the like, off Town Quay, plenty of space. (Or you can use the pontoons)
For peace and quiet, there's off St Anthony's LH if the wind is in the East.
Super spots in R Helford, just across the bay (Durgan Beach or on the other, South side of the River or above the moorings, past the Pool.)
Back in Falmouth, there are numerous little coves but you have to find the bottom sometimes as it can be very deep with only small areas of relatively shallow water to get a grip. St Mawes, across Carrick Roads is another, St Just in Roseland.
Plus there's visitors buoys off Royal Cornwall YC and St Mawes (not too expensive I expect - we always anchor!)
I think the only anchorage in Falmouth itself is off Town Quay, about half way between the pontoons at The Maritime Museum and those to the North at Town Quay. Port handed past the docks, and aim for the 'Chain Locker' pub.I have heard visitors complain that they charge you for mooring to your own gear, and if a big ship comes or goes in the docks they move you. Maybe the pontoons or a visitor's mooring? Fal harbour radio, CH 12.
Up the river in the creek opposite Tolverne (Smugglers) Cottage. At this time of year nothing except the hoot of coot and tern. Silent, heaven. You will still be nailed for achoring fee from Truro; God knows why, zero facilities, what a country.
There is a nice pictuersque spot in front of Trellisick house just past the bar, plus the pontoons all the way up to Malpas have always been v quite in our experience.
There is a nice spot to drop the hook upstream and around the corner from the place which looks like a pub but is actually a tea house, and which is big on the normandy landings and even more big on banning things, (NO THROWING ROCKS, NO CHILDREN OFF THE LEAD, NO TEA AFTER 2PM, DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT TYING UP HERE. ) were the two Ships owned by JCB are rafted up. Cant remember what its called but I am sure someone else here will recognise it...
Anchoring is restricted at Helford to above the moorings but below the oyster beds. (A good jump off spot for a dingy ride up Frenchmans creek)
By and far our faze is up the Fal, I will see if I can attatch a picture....
This is the pontoon past the above described spot, Shot Mid August, anhorage on left rear.
This is the Anchorage just across the bar, as you enter the Fal.
You will love Falmouth, Just watch the wind in the Visitors HAven..
As my children have grown up I don't know when half term is any more. I do know the Azores and back starts from Falmouth on June 2nd so would avoid it then. I will be following the race on line as a relative is single handing it.

Mr Morgans, Tolverne Cottage I think it's called. They do lovely fresh baked cakes. Very peaceful spot. And there's also large pontoons just up and downstream so easy to take a dinghy ashore there.
