Hey people, new to this site so still getting my bearings.

I'm after some advice on prop selection for my Falcon 23.

Single Volvo Penta AQ211 (5.0l V8) with single prop sterndrive.

Max RPM at full throttle should be between 4200 and 4400.

I've tried 15x18.5 ali prop which caused some issues reaching the plane without the use of tabs. Then switched to 16x17 which proved much better in coming to the plane with the boat loaded. RPM was reaching 4200ish but not all the time but touched 36 knots. (Put this down to conditions and boat load weight/flat water but windy and spring tide)

Is it worth opening up the pitch another inch so to get the other 200 RPM or am i just being greedy?!

Looking to pick myself up a stainless one at the boat show this week but would like some advice just so i feel more confident when handing over the money!

Also, whats the views on 4 blades?

Thanks in advance

wd suggest sending to Steel developments ang get them to knock 1/2" - 1" off the pitch.
If its just reaching top revs now, its got no chance when theres a bit of fouling and wont develop full power.

Definitely find a prop that lets you get up to near the max rpm, you can always back off the gas, but if you are way down on the rpm band you can't get those extra rpms and thats worse as it means when the boat is fouled and loaded you are running the engine hard.
You will find it performs much better with a steel prop, better acceleration, top speed and turning, once you have had one there is no going back. A 3 or 4 blade will work fine, depends on who's prop you buy. It might be worth sending the boat to a dealer as they will play with props till its right, whereas if you buy it and take home to try they might not want to exchange it if its wrong after its been used.

Thanks everyone.

That was my first post and after owning this boat for 5 years it's really nice just having people to answer questions rather than 'play' until it's right.

Have spoke to Steel Developments and they advised 15.5 x 15 SS 4 blade with the discounted price if i want the pitch altered at a later date.
Also, registered with the Falcon owners club and will run Steel Developments choice of prop past them.

Thanks again for all your help.

Does the falcon owners club still exist?

Hi everyone, I have just bought a Falcon 23 spc. How do I join the Falcon boat owners club? I don’t know how my Fore berth goes together, there seems to me two holes on the table which line up with holes on the bunks but I can’t find a pin or anything to fit in. Any help would be appreciated
