Thank you for asking. Slight thread slip somewhere.
Deposit has been returned.
He said If I waited five days the work would have been completed, although he decided sumps don’t need changing. There apparently was a viewing today. It’s still for sale.
Broker is on the usual boat sale web sites showing a Southampton based 05 s34 with 1 owner.

Called Shepherds Marine today for info on their S34 you mentioned. It’s been on the lake for last 4 years and only 250 hrs. Broker wasn’t sure on full service history as yet. Last done 18 months ago.
Needs to be low enough offer to allow for transport dan souf but broker intimating the owners not too keen on dropping from asking.

Yes. He says that’s not a boat he knows of.
It does look a nice boat and I would make the trip up there but it needs to be nearer £70k to allow enough for service and transportation.
Shepherds said they’ve already had offers rejected by vendor.

There’s another in Poole with D-4’s but apparently more to go wrong and extra cost of servicing compared to Kads or Ad engines.

It surprises me that you think you can negotiate the price of a boat on the basis of transport cost because it is not located where you would like it.

Agreed.
Not long ago I bought a used boat knowing that it took 1200Nm and 8500 litres or so of fuel, to bring her to my home berth.
But I didn't even consider asking a discount for that reason, because a seller reply along the lines of "your problem, not mine" would have been 100% correct.

Whereas I can understand your budget limits, including your transport issues, as already said that is not the sellers problem but obtaining a sale at the highest price is. We are right at the start of peak interest for the coming season, following a blinding Summer last year and a mild Winter, so no surprise the vendor is hanging on presently, and the advice from the broker is him doing his job working for his client. He is obliged to pass on any offer, even if he thinks it will be rejected, besides over time the vendors price expectations may well alter in your favour. Being able to show you are serious, with no other boat to sell first and the full cash payment immediately available might increase the vendors attention to any offer you may make.

Glad you received your deposit back BTW. I wonder if that broker will disclose the defects he is now fully aware of to other punters, as he is legally obliged to if asked. Tempted to walk the dog down to Hamble Point !

More on being realistic on my final costs. They don't have to except any of my offers but you have to start somewhere. There are still boats around at this price that have been on the market for a while so maybe theres room for adjustment.

Seems, perfectly logical to me. If a boat is on the Lakes it would be worth less to me as I'd have to pay for it to be moved and I'd have to factor that into any offer that I made. Whether the seller appreciates that or not is up to him.

Well we went all around south coast ,Thames ,lakes ,Lincoln and Ireland to find a good boat ,if you limit to Solent you might end up with the best of a bad lot which could cost over time, my advice would be get out there and look then you can see the difference between good and bad .SS

Russ, I don't think that anyone has pointed this out yet, but what you really need is a ............... Targa 34. Without doubt the finest vessel ever built!

Or failing that, how about a Cranchi Zaffiro 34?

Cranchi looks interesting option. Not sure about the rouged interior seating. Worth a look over one though. Thank you.

T34 would be my preference if it were a white hull. Its been hard work over 6 years of cutting and polishing my old boat and probably now wearing a little thin on the gel.

Are the lakes not fresh water?
I had noticed this boat and very nice it is too but it’s a 5-6 hour drive plus the logistics of surveys, sea trial and transportation.
I’ve sent a contact email. Never know they may have a good deal.

We have been moored next to that boat for the last two years.

Visually looks good and always clean.

We spend 70-80 nights a year aboard and have seen the owners once in all that time - which is why it might be for sale. I cannot be sure but dont think its left its mooring in that time, if it has very rarely.

Its not a boat that has been on the lake long. There are pro's and con's to both salt and fresh use. Salt doesnt like the mechanicals and fresh warm water tends to disagree with the hull!

Thank you.

Broker said the owners have it around 4 years. Hopefully if he gets back to me he'll have more information that I asked for. They were a bit vague on the history.

I agree that factoring in transport costs etc is perfectly legitimate when determining what a particular boat is worth to you when buying. The thing is whether or not the owner agrees but that is a matter for them. Market conditions will be a factor and as already pointed out last year the market was bouyant and indications are that this is continuing.

Not sure if it is still the same but having looked at and seriously considered buying boats from Windermere in the past, the prices always appeared to be a little inflated, there appeared to be a reluctance for boats to leave the lake and it is not possible to do a proper trial due to the speeed limit. On two boats we looked at poor maintenance was an issue - may not have been representative of course but worth bearing in mind.

Can you remember the names of the boats you viewed Greg? Although they could have been changed.
