I've used International Woodskin on exterior teak before but found it had a sort of sticky feel to it ... having followed the instructions to the letter.
Has anyone used a successful matte varnish on exterior teak, please? The Woodskin doesn't fade, flake, peel or turn black so it would need to have similar properties … or I'll just have to use Woodskin again! Just wondered if there was anything in matte finish.

I like polyurethane mat for interior use, a much harder and durable finish.
As long as its out of direct UV light it will last a long time.

Note to myself , read the question twice before answering!
With regards to external teak, and I have a lot of it.
I now keep the varnished areas to a minimum,
and use SP epoxy resin well flatted down then 4 coats of International alkyd gloss varnish,
This is flatted down and re-varnished every other year as epoxy has no UV resistance.

What is the purpose of the epoxy?

One word of warning is that varnish doesn't give 100% protection to the epoxy and it will probably deteriorate after a couple of years exposure to even moderate sunshine.
Gives hardness and stability to the wood which gives rather more life to any varnish put on top. Easier to touch back up as less likely for moisture to get underneath.

Thanks for that … doesn't look as though it's available in France though … reckon I'll have to stick with Woodskin.

Try it out on a scrap of wood first to see if you like the finish. I applied it to the cockpit table in our previous boat, hated the result, and it took me hours with a power sander to get it off before I could resort to more traditional varnish!

Semco is certainly available in SoF as most yachts with crew use it but as mentioned it does need annual reapplication which is no hard job if just toe rails but agree might be too much for decks although if you search on mobo forum you will see results achieved by those retirees with units of time to fill or a willing crew. Each to own though but we have used for four years on our teak and keeps looking good but do choose the right colour of course .
