I do not agree that hard eyes in multiplait are unsafe. I've had them in two of my lines for nearly ten years, during which time they have often been under great loads. Neither has worked loose or even changed position. The initial splicing work does have to be properly done of course and I did whip the eye to the M/P at both sides of the narrow end.
I suspect the difficulties experienced by some other posters are caused as a result of the eye jamming so that the rope was pulled 'out of line' with the eye, or that the original splice was too loose.
