Excellent vid of rescuing a Yacht off a beach.
... If you have twenty-seven minutes to spare.
I wouldn't say "NO" risk - there's always risk - but minimal in this case I would think ...It's very easy thing to do and defitinitley no risk to it.
The skipper then asked us to take a halyard and use the rescue boat to heel the boat. She then cam off under her own engine quite easily. It is a rescue method I have often wondered about. It is a bit scary to apply a RB pull to the top of the mast. Visions of it all tumbling down under too much load. As it happened there were no worries. All over in 10 minutes.
"I guess chains rust" Yes they do at an alarming rate. I can't imagine a good chain failing in a storm. Even if weight onb the bottom moves a boat will not usually come ashore because weight will continue to drag and eventually halt the movement. But chains fail or ropes chafe that is usually why boats end up on shore. The evidence is usually plain to see in tackle still attached to the bow. All that assuming the bow hardware holds. Our local mooring authorities have mandated a professional inspection of all moorings every 2 years. Yes a real pain to boat owners but much fewer boats on beach now. geem is complaining about weather. (cold) We have had heat wave after heat wave 42 max last 2 days with min. around 24 overnight. Record number of days over 40 for Feb already. Cool today for sailing only 39 max. ol'willThe yacht in the picture is quite interesting (if I recall correctly)...we have storms overnight and can get half a dozen boats on the beach...these are moored to buoys with concrete weights on the sea floor....so many boats break free every year that no one bothers now to moor up during the winter on that beach. All except that catamaran...it’s always there year after year and it’s never budged...and last night wasn’t even that windy...I guess sea floors move and chains rust...
That’s one of the scariest things I have ever seenBoat balls are the answer to reducing draught, 2 tons of water in bags hanging off the spinnaker halyards ....
That’s one of the scariest things I have ever seen
ps. Beautiful yacht
Looks scary, but when the bags hit the water their mass disappears as the bag contents are the same density as the water - so the boat can't go over any further than the length of the halyards - and you control that with the winches. The bags can be swung out using the helm. To retrieve them just let out the halyard or rig a line to dump the water. That’s one of the scariest things I have ever seen
ps. Beautiful yacht
