Rang the flag man last week. Wheres the flags I ordered ages ago, I said. Ummm. Forgot said he. Have them ready for next weekend.

Then I gets loads of PM's over the weekend. Folks wanting flags for The Solent do. I'll do my best I says and rings flag man.

But Happy is not happy with this and starts ranting and raving.

No SAE. No cheque, not even an address. Just a rant and telling me he can get them cheaper elsewhere anyway and my flag mans a w**ker. (Or words to that effect).

So, flag man rings my works this morning. He's done the embroidery even made a special one for Duncan this morning. Taken them to Bolton 16 miles away. Got them all stitched up. And brought them back for 4-30PM. When I picked them up armed with the SAE's folks had sent. Even managed to cram Solitairs into the minute envelope that wot he sent, and wizzed off to main post office to catch the post. Meanwhile Duncan who seems to have difficulty with instructions, says he's transfered the money to my account and address is in PM at home. So drives back home. Sends Tutts scurrying round house for envelope and stamp. She arrives back with best she's got. So jumps back into car and with screeching tyres and blured speed cameras. Heads back to the post office for 5-30 deadline.

Duncan. You owe me. Two first class stamps. an envelope,
A set of new tyres. A gallon of diesel (white)
Then theres the speed camera thingies? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Happy you owe nothing. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Does this mean that I am going to be the only one at the meet without a flag. I am mortified. I'll be an outcast. What am I saying, I am an outcast.

Don't worry you're not the only outcast, I haven't got a flag either

Must add that to the list of things to do (number 134)

Well hlb, no flag for Happy1 !! When I PM'd you, you told me the guy had let you down and you did not have the flags, I asked if you would get them in time and you said No. I Pm'd you and said I felt sorry for you as this guy has messed you about for months and months, a search on the flags shows your excuses for him. I said maybe you should ditch him and get someone else, as firstly they may be cheaper (as these are not that cheap) and may be better. I said that as you could not get any flags I would get 10 made, keep two for myself and give away 8 to others, they could then compare quality and cost, also perhaps others could research to see if we could find a better reliable flag maker that would send them direct to save all the farting about with SAE's e.t.c. You Pm'd me back and said you were not going to read all that crap, I was amazed as I was just trying to help, but then thought you had 'lost the plot' and needed time to recover and a lie down. I check tonight and see flags flying off everywhere, what's going on? And is it time to change supplier? Why should you be messed about the way you have been by the flag man, there are plenty of others about, we are paying a decent price for a flag, not giving to a charity, something is mighty wrong with the system as it is!

As the 'designer' of the burgee I explored various options for supply before Haydn entered the frame. I can assure you that the quality for the price is excellent and no-one I spoke to even came close to the price and usually with an inferior product and requiring a minimum quantity order to boot. Haydn picked this up and ran with it and I think I speak for most people here when I say they have been well satisfied with what they got for their money and how relatively painless it has been using the SAE approach. Haydn has only ordered more flags against paid for orders - for which I do not criticise him one little bit.
This may not be the most commercially organised operation but it works and I've heard no complaints.
In short, if it aint broke it dont need fixing.
All in favour say 'Aye'
(and be warned ....BogBrush has tasted BarryH's blood and is raring to get into something meatier...........)

But.....at the end of the day, it's only a little flag. Not worth getting excited about IMHO.

The end.

Don't get me wrong I am just concerned at hlb's welfare. It's OK saying it aint broke, but hlb is running around like a blue arsed fly trying to sort things out due to the unreliable flag maker, is that NOT broke. Perhaps if you want to keep Mr unreliable flag maker then someone else should do the chasing for a bit and give hlb a rest, I wouldn't call what he has been through getting the last lot out pleasurable! There is no doubt that everyone appreciates what has gone in to organising it, but perhaps a review is sensible, what harm can it do? If you insist on keeping Mr unreliable then perhaps hlb should be re-imbursed for his time with an added donation on the cost. Why does Mr flagmaker not send them out and save hlb the aggro?

Just the matter of hlb's sanity running about for all of us. A little flag to some, but what about poor hlb's efforts to get them /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

But Haydn doesn't really mind. Organising the Burgees gives Haydn a purpose in life. He likes to make a bit of a fuss so that everyone likes him! Also gives him something to waffle on about. That's just the way things work around here.

Where would the fun be if he switched to an ultra efficient flag maker who wanted a minumum order of 5000 or something?

The system worked before and works now. I ordered my flag and Hadn was kind enough to put a stamp on it for me as Guernsey stamps arent accepted at the English Post Office.

I got my burgee and was happy with the service. We arent a huge organisation to be ordering thousnds of them a month and people arent usually that fussed as to how quickly they get them. As B1 says the system works why change it?

Haydn my burgee is still fine and in perfect condition, when it gets tatty I will send you an SAE and a cheque for a new one. Happy just do the same and dont worry about not having it next day delivery. When it turns up it turns up and no ones going to ignore you cos you aint got one. Chill out its only a burgee!!!!

Having already got one...just have to say that these are top notch embroidered double sided, piped edge thingies, not printed crap. You pay this much for nasty nylon printed things in swindlers, and they don't manufacture in single numbers

What you mean there aren't 5,000 wanting flags /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif OK I was just thinking of his welfare, if you are sure he has not lost the plot then I will send him my cheque, I need something to stick on my 2.5 - 3mtr aerial /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

By the way does anyone have a flag I could borrow for the weekend as hlb WILL NOT send out a flag to me UNTIL he gets the cheque AND stamps AND envelope. Now would I really do a runner? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

hlb, remember your friends are here if ever you feel you need to talk flags /forums/images/icons/wink.gif and it definately seems that your efforts are greatly appreciated, I guess you will be getting free drinks at Mercury all weekend /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
