In a perfect world, I'd say grab the Etap as long as the keel is OK, but also get some experience in dinghies if only Wayfarers, it would teach a lot about sailing boats, sail trim and responses.
Grab the Etap then get some training, most places have evening classes on Nav etc.And are a good intro to like minded people.
